What are raw foods? What is the raw foods diet?

You may have heard about the “raw foods” diet trend that is sweeping the nation. What is the raw food diet all about? Will a raw foods diet really lead to better overall health and weight loss?

This talk is about introducing elements of the Raw Food diet into your life. It is not advocating an all-out, extreme approach, although some might wish to experiment with a short de-tox programme lasting a few weeks or a month.

A raw foods diet consists of unprocessed raw, mostly dairy-free, wheat-free and refined-sugar free foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost their enzymes and thus a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body, whereas uncooked foods provide living enzymes and proper nutrition.

Why go raw?

Proponents of the raw diet believe that the cooking process destroys vitamins and minerals. It also makes food more difficult to digest, with the result that partially digested fats, proteins and carbohydrates to clog up our gut and arteries.

Benefits to eating raw foods, include:

  • weight loss
  • more energy
  • clear skin
  • improved digestion
  • improved overall health

Many people clarify that they eat a “high raw” or a certain percentage of raw foods in their diet, such as “75% raw diet”. The raw diet has seen an increase in popularity in recent years with raw food restaurants opening in several major cities.

Come Join us at 2pm Saturday 26th June to meet Felix, try some of his foods, and find out more!
